American Cancer Society's 7th Annual Relay
Remember when your birthday was the biggest, best and greatest day of the year?  Well  “every day” is the biggest, best and greatest birthday for cancer survivors, their family and friends…March 6 -7, 2010 gather at the Trapp Family Ski Touring Center for the American Cancer Society’s, 7th Annual Relay For Life NordicStyle, the only NordicStyle Relay in the country. Come be part of this historical event by forming a team or joining an existing one as you cross country ski and snowshoe the night away to raise funds to find a cure for “all” cancers. In doing so, future generations will not have to hear the words, “you have cancer” and more… and more… and more…  birthdays will be celebrated! Take one day, one moment in time as we celebrate the biggest, best and greatest birthday of many more to come…

Vermont Ski Musuem: Personal Recollections of the CCC in Stowe and Waterbury
If you have lived in our community for any length of time you may still not know about all of the projects undertaken by the Civilian Conservation Corps in Waterbury and Stowe.  This presentation at 7:00pm is a personal collection of old photographs and stories related to ski trails, camping areas, the Waterbury Dam, and many more aspects of the CCC in Vermont.  You will probably be surprised to learn just how much the work of the "C's" is still around but completely overlooked.

Green Mountain Club Winter Education Workshops: Cold Weather Trekking
Learn what to wear and what to bring for a safe and successful winter trip.  We will discuss food, fleece, shells, socks, snowshoes, sweat, hats, handwarmers, hydration, boots, crampons, and long underwear.  This workshop is required for anyone planning to participate in GMC winter trips, unless you have previous winter hiking experience.  If you have never worn crampons, this workshop is for you. Instructors: Pete Antos-Ketcham; GMC Education Staff. Limit: 25. Fee: $40. Call 802.244.7037 x10 to register two weeks in advance.

Green Mountain Club Backcountry Ski Adventure
We'll hit a trail in the Mount Mansfield area for a backcountry tour on skis from 9:00am - 2:00pm. This workshop is designed for those who are comfortable on touring skis and looking to advance their skiing abilities. You should be comfortable with a snowplow on nordic/backcountry skis and transitioning to a tele-turn. Metal edges a must (partial edges okay).  Climbing skins may be necessary. This tour may include a fee if we access backcountry trails via a nordic ski center. Group limit: 8. Distance not to exceed 8 miles or 2,000 feet elevation gain. Ski rating: moderate. Fee: $25. Call 802.244.7037 x10 to register by March 1.

East Coast Super Shoot Public Viewing
Five action sport photographer finalists battle it out over two days at Stowe Mountain Resort to create a slideshow that will be judged for “the best in show” prize. The event culminates the evening of Friday March 28, 2010 with a public viewing of the finalists’ slideshows and the award ceremony to follow. The top finalist is awarded with exclusive prize packages by the event sponsors.

56th Annual Easter Sunrise Service & Easter Egg Hunt
Stowe’s 56th annual non-denominational Easter Sunrise Service will be held as always at the Cliff House atop Mt. Mansfield. Complimentary Gondola transportation is available to the public from 5:00 – 6:00am. The service will start at 6:26am. An Easter Egg Hunt in Spruce Plaza begins promptly at 10:00am followed by Easter Egg Painting in Spruce Camp's, 2nd level from noon - 3:00pm.

Vermont Ski Musuem: Waterbury Inn - Was it Murder?
The massive and elegant Waterbury Inn was destroyed in a fire in November 1953.  At the time it was truly a destination resort before the term became popular.  In 1950 the owner, Pauline Molony was found dead under baffling circumstances which lead to a true life Who-Dun-It?  On the night of the fire the manager vanished - did he torch the building and run away?  This presentation begins at 7:00pm and will have original crime scene photos and a never before seen picture taken in the early moments of the fire.

In Seascape, Nancy and Charlie, an American couple on the verge of the major life change of retirement, are having problems in their relationship. They are discussing these matters on the beach when another couple appears, two human-sized lizards named Leslie and Sarah who speak and act like people. The lizards have evolved to such a degree that they no longer feel at home in the sea and are compelled to seek life on the land.

20th Annual British Invasion Car Show
North America's largest British Classic Sports Car and Motorcycle Event! This year's featured marques are Rolls Royce, Bentley, Austin Healey and Triumph Motorcycles. Experience British cultural activities, shops, crafts, Auto Jumble and the Car Corral. The participants are primarily from the US and Canada with over 600 cars on field, and approximately 1000 total. This event is "A Four Day Celebration and Salutation to the Great British Motorcar and all manner of other things British."

Stowe Theatre Guild Presents The Light in the Piazza
In 1953 the beautiful, twenty-six-year-old, although almost childish Clara Johnson and her mother Margaret Johnson are visiting Tuscany, in Italy. As they are walking in a plaza, a breeze carries Clara's hat away, only to be chased and returned by the handsome young Italian Fabrizio Naccarelli. A romance begins between Clara and Fabrizio. Maragaret, seemingly a very protective mother, tries to keep the lovers apart.

Stowe's Jackson Ice Arena will be transformed into a Bavarian village for this annual celebration of harvests and fall foliage. From oompah bands to authentic German foods to freshly brewed Vermont beers to pumpkin and face painting -- there's something for every "villager" -- young and old.  Voted a 'Top 10 Event in Vermont' for 2010!

28th Annual Stowe Foliage Arts Festival
Stowe always celebrates Vermont’s Foliage season with an exclamation point and that exclamation point is The Stowe Foliage Art and Craft Festival. Nestled between the mountains and the resplendent foliage, the white Camelot tents make for a perfect setting for an event. Many attendees make a point of making lodging reservations for this Columbus Day Weekend event. Since it is also Canadian Thanksgiving, be sure to book well in advance.

Wafaa Bilal: Agent Intellect
The Helen Day Art Center welcomes Wafaa Bilal, an Iraqi-American artist and professor at NYU to Vermont with a groundbreaking exhibition that explores the powerful and award winning art that arose from his personal experiences. This solo exhibition is the most comprehensive of the artist's work ever in the United States.

This is just a sample of things to do in the area. Of course downhill skiing & snowboarding are the most popular winter time activities, but there are also plenty of other fun things! For instance: hiking, horseback riding, fishing, shopping, and many, many more activities!

Kid-Friendly Event!Stowe, At Night, Lantern Tours - One hour walking tours that allow individuals to explore the town of Stowe from the early settlers' perspective. Learn about how the first settler Oliver Luce settled in Stowe and the history of the town. A professional guide narrates the entire walk by entertaining the group with legendary ghost stories and Stowe history. Come spend an evening on the leisurely half mile walk, and carry an authentic replica of an 18th century barn lantern to help ward off the countless ghosts! Tours are available in August, September and October on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday nights. Admission is $9 for adults, $5 for students; children ages 8 and under are free.
